49 Summer Street was built in 1900 and, in the early years, was home to a photographer who probably used the front room on the first floor as his studio. My grandparents bought this house about 1924-25 and my father was born at home there in 1926. He grew up in the house and when my parents married, they lived downstairs while my grandmother lived upstairs. I, too, lived in this house until December 1963 when we moved to Wayne. I loved the magnolia trees blooming out front, playing in the old detached garage, which is still standing, but I wasn't fond of the crab apples squishing one my shoes in the backyard when they all fell off the tree. My favorite memories, though, are of Christmases there and playing with all my friends who lived in the apartments across the street.
